What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Our approach is to first gauge their current math skills level and any gaps via a proprietary assessment (which is offered free to all new students). We use the results to prepare a tailor-made learning plan for your child and give you a status report of what your child has already mastered and in which areas help is required.
Your child has to enjoy coming to the class so we put a lot of effort to create a fun energetic environment with lot of positive reinforcement (e.g. rewards and high fives) for good learning habits and achievements.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our instruction approach goes beyond traditional math tutoring to develop understanding and build a love for math, while addressing the foundational gaps.
Our tutors are highly trained and have either done advanced math coursework from colleges like Rutgers, NJIT etc. or have education degrees with lot of experience teaching Math in schools and outside.
More than academic qualifications, we look for that special ability to connect with students and to boost the student's confidence level.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Most of our students come in for 2 or 3 times a week for 1 hour session for a flat monthly fee. That is more productive than just attending once/week with a private tutor. Math can only be internalized and mastered with regular practice and when you are exposed to different concepts over a period of time(distributive learning).
How did you get started teaching?
Hated the way Math was taught while growing up and when we came upon Mathnasium- we realized this is the right way!
