Brittany is a certified elementary/middle school math teacher in the state of Illinois and now a PhD student in math education at Rutgers. She has taught in Chicago Public School for nine year, five years at the 4-6th grade levels and four years in high school level. Her specialty is elementary math through algebra. She loves teaching math to young people and helping them becoming life-long learners.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to first ask them what they need and want from our sessions and their preferred learning style. If they are not certain or younger, I can help them figure it out while tutoring them. I then would look at the work they need help with. I prefer to explain the reasoning behind a problem to build lasting understanding then teach strategies to be able to attack subsequent problems.
