About
As someone who joined the military with a degree I remember helping my fellow Marines with math and really getting satisfaction from it. In my opinion, a good tutor isnt one who just helps with homework, but focuses on making sure you understand the concepts and the why behind the answer. I do my best to focus on that when helping my students.
Honestly, I enjoy seeing that moment where the student finally understands a concept and is able to do more examples without guidance. Like the saying goes, give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first ask what topics the student needs help with and then take it from there. Generally I like to go over examples as I believe the practice of going over different problems will give insight to how to approach future problems. My focus is to ensure the student actually understands the process and the why behind it as opposed to just doing examples alone.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a master of science in electrical engineering which is pretty math intensive to say the least. I'm also a former Marine, and I have helped my junior Marines with their assignments as they sought after higher education on their off time.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Generally my rate is $45 an hour. But my goal is to really focus on the student learning the material and not watch the clock.
How did you get started teaching?
I'm an instructor for other subjects in my real life job, and I always had a passion for teaching and trying to relate to the student. I have always enjoyed math and it is definitely a skill that can help you in life.
What types of students have you worked with?
In my other job I've taught a wide range of students, from differing ages and experience levels. It boils down to connecting with the student.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
When I first joined the Marines, my Sergeant heard that I had a degree in engineering and asked for my help with his math homework. We had a very good relationship ever since.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Go with the tutor that shows an interest for your progress and understanding.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask yourself what is it that you don't understand. Knowing what you don't know is a great step for the tutor to start. For example, it could be confusion of terms that can hinder your understanding. Or maybe when certain rules apply or do not apply. It is more helpful to the tutor to know where you need the attention.
