Tony's Math And Physics Tutoring
About
While I'm fairly new to tutors.com, I've been tutoring on other platforms for about 4 years, mostly in math and physics. During those 4 years, I have done hundreds of hours of tutoring, much of which was online.
Most of my tutoring has been done on Wyzant.com - My profile there has more information and more reviews. Here is the link: https://www.wyzant.com/match/tutor/87116598
The main classes I tutor: Physics, Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus.
I graduated from South Dakota State University with a B.S. in Physics and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (GPA 3.91). I also have a Master's Degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University (GPA 4.0).
I am an active duty Submarine Officer in the US Navy, working at US Strategic Command on Offutt AFB near Omaha, NE. I have been working in the nuclear power field for most of the last 19 years. During my career, I have taught people from all walks of life many math and science concepts. Much of my career has involved helping high school and college graduates learn the difficult aspects of nuclear power, along with the math, physics, and chemistry that goes along with those concepts.
I have learned a number of techniques to effectively convey difficult ideas and help students truly understand the underlying concepts, not just solve the specific problem at hand. I also have developed proven techniques for ensuring material is retained. I use these techniques to ensure students are better prepared overall, whether for test preparation, application, or learning more advance topics.
I truly enjoy helping people learn math and physics. I enjoy learning new things myself, and it's great to help others out.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by talking to them to see where they are at in a particular class or project.
It usually works out well to go through homework problems or exam reviews that the student is working on. This allows me to see where they are and what areas they need the most help with.
As we continue to work through homework problems, exam reviews, or additional practice problems, I help the student understand how to work through the problems on their own, so they learn the material better.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have Bachelor of Science degrees in both Physics and Electrical Engineering. I also have a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management.
As a career Submarine Officer in the US Navy, much of my job has involved training high school and college graduates how to operate a nuclear propulsion plant. This involves math, physics, chemistry, and other areas. I've spent years teaching people these concepts during my Navy career, in addition to the online tutoring I have done.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing depends on the particular subject and the distance required to travel, etc.
How did you get started teaching?
I've always enjoyed helping others learn. Coupled with my own interest in math and science, this has led me to get involved with tutoring students in these areas.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with both high school and college students from all over the country.
