Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
On engaging a student, you first need to make them understand that math is not as difficult as people want to portray. I first want to make the student develop a positive attitude towards the subject. This is done by first introducing easy to do questions to help the student gain confidence. This is critical at the time of engagement. As the student begins to familiarize with the subject and have developed the right attitude, you will realize that they will enjoy to work independently and only need you for guidance. This is an important skill to build in my students.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an Accountant by Profession. I had very strong Math skills throughout school and University. In all Math courses at University I scored distinctions.
When I was hired as an Accountant at a school, they could not find an English speaking Math teacher, as such they asked me for a year to core teach with a trained math teacher who was to leave for USA the next year. I have six years math teaching experience.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I leave this open for discussion because each customer or student have different needs. As such I prefer a pricing model that is suitable for each unique need/s of a student.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching Math as early back as 2013 as a part time job. I grew passion for math.
I prefer to tutor up to Geometry level. The higher levels I think are better handled by Math trained professors. I always prefer to teach a course at ease without having to crack my mind. Hence my preference to teach up to Geometry.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have mainly assisted students who are learning with Nebraska high school Lincoln from Basic math through to Geometry. Our students also sit for CAT exams, i have also been instrumental in helping them practice for the tests. In a few cases i have tutored students planning to sit for GRE Math Tests.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have been tutoring two students from Le Rosey school of Switzerland as they are doing online learning due to COVID-19. I have found this experience quiet enlightening as I learned of many online math quiz games that are very educational.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Tutors come in different ways and with different motives. The best tutor is not the one who makes you dependent on him so that he makes extra cash, the best is the one who will teach and train you to work independently. It is not always about the money, but giving the student ability to acquire a skill.
So students need to be wise in choosing a good online tutor.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Have I really tried and failed or am I just lazy to do it?
What part of this chapter have I failed to comprehend?
Is my problem a foundational problem or it's just a concept I missed in the lesson?
How do I want the tutor to assist me?
Am I naturally weak in this subject or I have challenges with certain chapters in the course?
Have I been able to identify my problem so that I can lay it out clearly to my tutor?
