Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After making the intial introduction, I have the new student complete an assessment to help us figure out his/her strengths and weaknesses.
We then customize a program that automatically adjusts to their level.
Everything is done virtually, allowing the parent’s to check the progress of their learner on the go!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied Mathematical Science/Computer Science at UNC Chapel Hill.
I am currently pursing an Accounting Degree at WGU North Carolina.
I am also the Director of Tutoring for a local non profit for student athletes.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I don’t have a standard pricing system. I try to work within the student’s budget.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring while in high school a long time ago. I tutored other high school students and continued to support them while in college. Then in 2013 I started homeschooling my own children. Due to my work with my kids, I was asked to work with a local nonprofit as a tutor of their student athletes.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with preschoolers (my freshman year in college), elementary school grades K - 5 and high schoolers. I have even worked with young adults in an effort to help the get their GED.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I just launched a radio show with my sisters called Tribetalk Radio. This past weekend we had the opportunity to cover the All About BeYouty Expo in Raleigh. It was such a success that we have been asked to cover other local events. It’s awesome to be able to be a source of inspiration and positivity in our community and the world abroad.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would tell the student to look for someone who’s willing to create a personalized learning plan. No one person learns alike! You are an individual and you needed to be treated as such. Ask questions about how the teacher instructs. Make sure that their methods fit your learning style. If you don’t know your learning style, do some research on the web or contact me to help you figure it out!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why do you think you need a tutor? What goal are you trying to reach by hiring a tutor? Think about both your short-term/immediate goals as well as your long term/lifelong learning goals.
How much time can you dedicate to these extra lessons? How often can you meet with your tutor?
What’s your budget? How much are you willing to invest in your learning?
