K-12 Tutoring
About
I have always had a passion for the sciences, but I have also never disliked a specific subject area. Growing up with three younger siblings, I learned the best strategies for teaching kids (especially younger kids) the concepts they need to know in a way that they will not only grasp, but want to learn more about. I'm currently a SOAR ambassador at UNCW, and would love to share my knowledge with your student!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to spend one hour getting to know your student during the first session. This hour will be used to talk about the school they go to, what exactly they're struggling with, and depending on their age, playing a few games to create a connection with the student. For older kids, I usually don't do the games, but the rest still applies. After the first session of just talking and learning about your student and their preferences, I like to go home and refresh myself on the course of study I will be working with them on. If it's algebra, I'll solve a few equations myself. If it's stoichiometry, I may relearn my conversions. In the end, my goal is to make the tutoring process as seamless and education as possible, while forming a connection with your student to prove trust and make the sessions fun.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my high school diploma, lots of experience with tutoring elementary school kids with my church, and experience in high level maths and sciences such as statistics, calculus, and biochemistry. I also specialize in testing strategies. I received a 31 on the ACT test by using my own strategies, and helped people improve their own scores by 6+ points.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I like to charge about $40 per hour for lower level courses, and $55 an hour for higher level courses. I can be flexible with special situations but I can not take less that $40 per hour for any sessions. Ideally, sessions will last 1-2 hours, and will happen 1-3 times per week depending on the help your student needs.
