About
I’m a private tutor specializing in reading and writing in English for a variety of contexts, both academic and professional. I have a PhD in English from Yale University, and I work primarily with students to enhance their scholastic performance, whether it be to better their reading and writing abilities in the classroom; to increase their verbal score on the SAT/ACT/GRE; to better their vocabularies and taining them how to read and write about what they read; and to revise and polish their admissions essays to the colleges/univerisities they want to attend or dream about attending.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to begin by assessing what specifically my client needs are before either meeting with them personally or on the phone. After addressing these needs, I go about tailor-making their lesson plans, concentrating on what they have trouble with and then going through these exercises over the course of several sessions. I prefer to have them submit their writing to me, if it’s a college admissions essay or a school assignment, and I meticulously go through each sentence to polish their grammar and syntax and to give their writing voice a presence that makes them stand out and captivate their readers.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a PhD in English from Yale University in 2017, as well as a MA and MPhil from Yale in English. I received my undergraduate degree, a BA in English, from UNC Chapel Hill in 2010. I taught several courses in Shakespeare, the 20th century American Novel, and Reading and Writing the Law at Yale. I currently work as a freelance tutor for several companies in the Raleigh area, including CaryTutors and College Nannies and Tutors.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

For standardized test preparation, I charge $25 an hour. If the client wishes to meet with me, I add $10 to my rate.
