Hello! My name is Laney Portelance. I am 24 and recently graduated from UNC Chapel Hill. My experience with tutoring includes one year of teaching a high school journalism class how to put together a magazine as their Editor-in-Chief. I taught them AP style writing, magazine design, and programs such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. My experience with English (reading + writing) includes high academic success from Kindergarten through university, which I hope to use to help you or your child learn to the best of their ability!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I want to get to know the student. I want to know if they learn best by watching/listening or by doing. I want to establish a baseline for how they're doing in their class, how they've done in similar classes, and what they're struggling with. I am an open book and will let them know anything they want to know about me, in order to help them feel more comfortable with me as their tutor.
