I have been a teacher for more than thirty years and have always encouraged excellence rather than perfection. My lifelong passion for language teaching and learning has taken me to Asia, Africa, and Europe, as well as both coasts of the United States and many places in between. I have worked with students of ALL ages and treasure the moments when the spark of understanding ignites desire, curiousity, and passion in another human being. I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor or Arts in English, along with permanent teacher certification in the State of New York in both English Language Arts and English to Speakers of Other Languages. I have been a presenter at the annual international conference of TESOL International, which hosts several thousand professionals from all over the globe. I have also been a teacher trainer here in the United States and Asia, and served as the director of an academic English program in China. Additionally, I am a published writer and have worked for several multi-national publishing companies, one of which is Pearson Education.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin with an intake questionnaire designed to assess student needs and goal--both short and long-term. Appropriate materials are selected based on those needs and goals. I strongly believe that success in this type of learning is all about relationship, and I do my best to create a supportive and positive connection with my students. I maintain high standards and realistic expectations, nudging students towards excellence rather than perfection. I believe that often the most valuable learning is a result of taking risks and making mistakes. That has been true in my life, and I believe it to be true of most people.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Master's degree in TESOL, Bachelor's degree in English, and teacher certification in the State of New York in both English Language Arts and TESOL.
