Handley Tutors Get You There
About
I am highly passionate and driven when it comes to empowering others to achieve their goals. Tutoring has provided me with an opportunity to do just that. I have been a tutor for almost 4 years with 2 different literacy councils and one adult GED program at a local homeless shelter. Additionally, I tutor children at the local homeless shelter, which shows them the importance of education and learning. I taylor my tutoring to the student, as I fully recognize and appreciate that everyone has a different style of learning. I like to get to know my student before diving into the subkect material since this allows me to familiarize myself with the student and taylor the tutoring in an individualized manner.
I hold a Business Administration Degree and one Paralegal Degree.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know my students first and foremost. This allows me to customize the tutoring lessons to meet their learning style. This not only enables the student to get the most out of the lessons, but also gives me the opportunity to personalize the lessons making the time spent much more efective and benefical to the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold two college degrees and I have been an active volunteer tutor for almost 4 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My hourly rate for tutoring is $40.00 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring after I moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2015. Looking for volunteer opportunities, I came across a local homeless shelter which needed tutors in their adult GED program. I inquired, signed up, volunteered and have been doin git ever since. Seeing the looks of satisfaction on the student(s)' face(s) makes it well worth the investment!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked will all kinds of students, from 75-year olds who never got their GED to 8-year olds struggling with multiplication tables, and all in between.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am a volunteer Guardian ad Litem, advocating for th ebest interest of children who have been abused or neglected and are currently in foster care. Recently, I was asked to share my knowledge and experience at a training in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I attended and was inspired by the enthusiam and passion the new volunteers have for the program and for their willingness to advocate for some of society's most vulnerable.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise students to get to know the tutor/teacher and feel them out a bit. Always listen to your gut instinct!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should know what they need help with. Simply stating, "I need help with math" is a bit too generic in finding the right tutor. Students should also take a moment and think about what learning style works best for them. Are they a visual learner? Do they learn best by diving in and being hands-on? What has worked for them in the past to help them achieve educational success?
