Kindergarten To College: STEM And English Tutoring
About
I have almost a decade of tutoring experience over a wide range of subjects and age groups. I've learned to keep track of my students' progress and make resources available to them online (including our session notes).
Professionally, I've worked for several years as an educator at Morehead Planetarium's afterschool program and summer science camps. Additionally, I held at paid position at UNC as a peer tutor and have taken on middle school and high school students for private sessions.
I truly enjoy teaching and can use my experience to formulate a strategy for any type of student!
I want to share my love for learning with others. I see many bright students struggle because somewhere along the way a key concept or skill was simply lost. Hopefully, I can bridge this gap for them.
I want to recognize the reality that learning can be difficult, especially under the pressure of grades and applications. So I want my students to feel confident facing that challenge while also finding something that truly interests them.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I tutored a student who did not speak the same language as I did, but we were able to have successful lessons as we could still work together on math assignments. Early on, I was nervous that we wouldn't make any progress, but he was persistent and talented and I learned a whole new way of communicating with a student!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise them to pick a teacher that they feel comfortable with. A good tutor is adaptable, so don't feel shy about letting a tutor know if their methods aren't working for you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should think through what aspects of their classes they enjoy and what aspects they find stressful. Basically, they need to have some awareness of what they need from their lessons. Picking 3 things (and these can change as needed) to prioritize is helpful.
