About
Hey there! I am a current Morehead-Cain scholar at UNC Chapel Hill, spending a semester in California. I have a lot of experience essay-writing for applications (for colleges, scholarships, and internships) and academic subjects (at UNC and Oxford University). My tutoring style is relaxed but effective. I'm sociable, easy to work with, and have a flexible schedule. LinkedIn link copied below!

I love working one-on-one to help students become better writers. Especially when it comes to writing college application essays and internship application essays, I know what selection committees look for and how to help students best frame themselves and the work they've done.
I work with a range of students, from younger kids on writing basics to high school seniors on college applications. Please do reach out if you're interested in working with me!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Especially if it's for college applications, I want to learn a lot about the student before writing or editing essays. When I have a good grasp on the student's strengths and experiences, I can help them write in ways that show off both their greatest achievements so far, and their desire to keep learning and growing moving forward.
With academic essays I will work with a student to understand what the prompt is asking, and come up with some ideas for essay theses together. I will have them work through the essay in stages to ensure quality throughout the piece.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I study philosophy, political science, and screenwriting at the University of North Carolina, all subjects that rely heavily on writing. I also studied at Oxford University as a visiting student where I wrote 12 philosophy essays in 8 weeks, each dissected and graded by my professor. I am a Morehead-Cain scholar, which is a fully merit-based scholarship program at UNC-Chapel Hill, demonstrating that I know what it takes to write an attention-grabbing application. I also took AP English Language in high school, receiving a 5 (the highest possible score) on the AP English Language Exam.
I also wrote a workbook with some of my peers in college about how to make an impact as a young person.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing ranges from $40-60/hour based on which services a student needs.
How did you get started teaching?
In high school I would tutor my peers, but after I received the Morehead-Cain scholarship I was asked by people in my community (in Kansas City, at the time) to help their students with college applications.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly high school students, from all backgrounds and of all skill levels.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Students should look to hire a tutor that has credibilities similar to what the student him/herself is looking to achieve.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to writing so I can immediately begin helping them in ways that are actually useful.
