How did you get started teaching?
I come from a long line of educators, especially on my mother’s side. My mom was a first grade teacher and her father was a history teacher for high schoolers. I began my career as a School Social Worker when I was 25. I went back to school in 1991 and became a School Psychologist. I worked in both Florida and NC as a School Psychologist. I provided psychological assessments for mostly in pre-k to 5th graders.
What types of students have you worked with?
The students I have and am currently working with have learning difficulties in math, reading, and writing. In addition, they may have attention difficulties, proceeding information is difficult, and social/emotional concerns are getting in the way of their learning new concepts. Some students have memory issues, medical problems, and visual/hearing impairments. Some other students may been repetition of concepts to guide them with memorization and comprehension skills. Every student is unique and they may be visual, auditory, or kinestheyic learners.
