About

A soon-to-be-graduate of UNC-Asheville, I have studied writing and English literature for many years. Previously, I have worked as a peer mentor and in a university writing center. I work with students 16+ to build upon basic understandings of writing concepts.

My tutoring/coaching is focused on creating independence and confidence in the writer while improving the writing piece at hand. My feedback is person-focused, and I prefer building healthy writing practices and processes with students to create long-term sustainable success with writing.

Writing can be a joyful, exciting, surprising endeavor as much as a painful and frustrating one. I look forward to working with you to get through each of these stages and create an essay, poem, story, or critical analysis you can feel proud of!

I enjoy seeing students go from discouraged and anxious to confident and proud. It is extremely rewarding to hear back from students about improvements in grades and better experiences using the writing tools/processes we found together!

Lucy has been such an amazing mentor for me. She has given me such great feedback on my papers, helped me write my papers, and even just a great person to talk to about anything! Overall, I am so blessed to have Lucy in my class and thankful to have her help me through anything!

Frequently asked questions

With new students, I like to spend a few minutes establishing an understanding of their expectations, needs, and experiences with writing. This helps us get on the same page for the focus of our session(s), and clarifies that while I am the tutor/coach, the writing and the session are the student's, so the priorities are decided by the student.

I work with students at any stage of writing, from brainstorm to final draft.

In November, I will have a BA is English, concentration in Creative Writing.

I have worked for the Chapel Hill univeristy writing center, for which I was extensively trained.

For the past year, I have worked as a peer mentor for first-year students at UNC Asheville, providing writing and personal support.

My lessons are $15 for 30 minutes, $25 for an hour.

If you sign up for a three hour-long sessions, it is $60. Three half-hour sessions is $40.

I also provide written feedback on drafts. Pricing starts at $8 and increases $1 per page above 10. So, feedback on a 4-page piece is $8. Feedback on a 12-page piece is $10.

***My written feedback is rarely grammatical line edits unless that is explicitly requested. My feedback generally focuses on the piece as a whole (especially longer pieces) and often includes many questions for the writer. However, you may request the type of feedback you want.

I started teaching three years ago, formally. I have always loved writing and feel so sad when students have been discouraged, intimmidated, or shamed from writing. It is often seen as a elite or innate ability.

I believe anyone who has the will can write beautiful and/or sucessful words. And writing is better with help and community. This is why I teach.

I have worked with Creative Writing students who dream to become published authors all the way across the spectrum to students who think they have no writing talent at all.

Pieces I've assisted students with range from personal essays for college, fiction pieces, poetry, literature reviews, biology reports, philosophy essays, and more.
