Origami Girl Tutoring
About
I'm a very compassionate women who struggled in school due to a learning disability. I needed lots of extra help and patience but eventually I found ways to make learning work for me. I got my Masters of Engineering in 2020 and now I work in the medical field making robots which is super cool!
So often students work really hard but don't feel like they are making any progress. My job is to lay out there lessons in a way that they can make noticable progress. Every child is different and I will be happy to meet them where they are.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My main goal is to figure out what the student needs from me. If the concepts are confusing I find new ways of explaining it. If its a lack of confidence I try and work through examples to slowly build confidence. If its an attention issue I try and use colors and activities to keep them on track.
No two tutoring sessions are the same and no two children are the same.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. I also use a lot of different math in my work as a programmer.

$20/hour - Standard tutoring (Helping with homework or test review)
$40/hour - Intense tutoring (test is tomorrow and they need lots of help)
How did you get started teaching?
I was a young college student struggling with Calculus my second year of college and I used the school tutor so much that they suggested I apply to teach other math subjects so I could be paid to hang out with them. This fostered a deep appreciation and love for the tutoring community. We just want to help.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have helped tutor ages 8 all the way to college level Calculus 3. I was a paid math tutor employed by the math department to teach mandatory suplimentary lessons for Calculus I, II and III.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently got married to my Husband. We had a big outdoor wedding on my parents farm. It was a truly lovely event that I will treasure forever.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher that likes Math. Its one thing to have a teacher that is good at math but another thing entirely when they enjoy math.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should reflect on what they need. I can't help you as well if I don't know what you need. Coming into our tutoring sessions with a plan for what we can do to help is the best first step you can take.
