Math Works
About
An experienced math teacher (k-12) who fosters a sense of wonder and creativity. Certified in both Math (5-12) and Special Ed (k-12), interactive learning and scaffolding are my specialties. Nothing is more magical than the look of wonder in a student's eyes when they "get it". Having spent a couple of years doing Homebound teaching, I've discovered that working 1:1 with students is my gift. A gift I'd like to share.
I love math, learning, and kids. I enjoy the puzzle of how we learn math, finding (and removing!) the stumbling blocks, and watching children discover success. Tutoring is everything I love about classroom teaching (creativity, relationship, wonder) without the stress of conformity to classroom and test.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Quickly determine the goal. Are we working on a particular unit or test prep? Are we working on identifying and addressing missing building blocks? Are we starting a new course?
Build relationship. Conversation, as we play math games and unpack homework bundles, is key. What excites the student? What is daunting?
Offer positive assessments. Provide student with an opportunity to delight in what they know as they push the edges of their learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I bring a unique blend of certifications and experiences. Currently a Homebound teacher with Special School District, I am a Math major (certified 5-12) and also Special Education certified (k-12). In recent years I've taught in special needs classrooms and public school settings, students from k-12.
