When students are intrigued by their subject matter they are prone to learn more quickly and retain the information because it is no longer an arbitrary, abstract fact. My approach is unique to each student and draws in their interests and ways of learning to make the process enjoyable and engaging.
Having taken standardized tests and courses more recently is beneficial to my ability to teach because I have a rigorous background of course work in the series that students are exposed to and can explain why the method taught is relevant in their future classes.
I have 2 years of background as a Organic Chemistry Teaching Assistant and 5 as a STEM instructor for the Discovery Center and Drury SummerQuest. With a 36 ACT and NMSQT award, I am well versed in standardized tests. I have experience with children at a variety of functioning levels and am more than happy to adapt to specific needs as is required.
I enjoy watching students get excited and have ideas come together. I will do test preparation (standardized or by course) but I try to keep the emphasis is mainly on comprehension rather than scores. Because we focus on the application of ideas, the ability to cross-apply concepts is greater and students can draw their personal passions into practically any topic. When teaching, I am also pushed to learn with the students to answer more obscure questions and help satisfy curiosity beyond the standard curriculum. Ultimately, I enjoy teaching and when I do not have classes, tutoring gives me a chance to keep working with student to become more interested in and engaged with their academics.
My tenth grader really likes working with Elizabeth to sharpen her Algebra 2 skills. She says she is really good and knows she is a great help.

Generally, I ask parents or older students about what their objective is. We then talk for 5-10 minutes so I can figure out how they learn and what they are interested in and based off of that, we start working on curriculum.
I have 4 years of experience teaching courses for ages 3-15, and am a TA for Organic Chemistry and Biology at the University of Miami. I have worked in STEM education for several years, and gotten maximum scores on all standardized tests that I tutor.
