Frequently asked questions

When I take on a new student, I like to start off by meeting them and their parents. I like to get to know my students, their goals, their aspirations for the lives and their families.
I will then ask the student to complete a learning assessment. This assessment will help me understand how to plan my lessons. Does your child learn best through visual aids, auditory aids, tactile aids or reading/writing aids? The way I present the course material will be directed towards their natural learning tendencies.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Trauma Social Work from Saint Louis University in May 2021. I received an advanced minor in Communication Sciences & Disorders (Commonly referred to as Speech-Language and Hearing Disorders).

I have been creating content and teaching classes, or using course material to teach classes for 5+ years to individuals of all ages. I have been a peer tutor, a group study leader, a case manager who leads team presentations and course content creation, and a child advocate who advocates for the learning in all age groups.

As a social worker, I am trained to present material to all ages. I help parents understand their children by presenting their strengths and challenges, as well as ensuring connections between schools and families for successful support networks.

A standard hour session for any subject will be between $40-55. This price is built on time spent planning the tutoring session and content, as well as drive time.

Ultimately, my pricing system is based off of the needs of the child and the family. I am familiar with the education system, IEPs or 504s, classroom difficulties, as well as virtual learning obstacles. If a child is in need of more services or longer sessions based on their abilities, then the pricing will reflect that.

I've always loved teaching. I have been someone who felt that I couldn't truly understand a concept unless I was able to teach it to someone else.

I have worked with all ages and many abilities! As a peer support or tutor, a social worker or a paraprofessional, I have worked with pre-school aged children to high school graduates. As a social worker I also continue to teach and create individual content for adults.

Very recently, I had a case at work that required me to bring a child into hospital. As we waited for their admission, we got to talking and she told me that she loved math. I had a piece of paper and some colored pens, so we started making math problems out. As we did so, I immediately noticed she was behind in some areas she felt she was actually ahead in! To build off of her confidence, we started to dive in and address those difficulties. After about an hour I was calls away, and as I was leaving she asked if we could do those lessons every time I met with her. So for her birthday- as a surprise- I bought her some math workbooks and erasable colored pencils. That way, she can do them with me or on her own!

COMMUNICATE Communication is key to a teacher being able to understand your barriers for learning. Every person starts somewhere. When we are able to honestly find those parts we find problematic, we can rise to the challenge together!

BE PREPARED I can spend all the time with you that I can, but if you don't do the work, it probably won't help. Use the study tools, get organized, do that extra problem.

MAKE LEARNING FUN Learning is only as fun as the time we spend doing it. I am always open to ideas and suggestions to make your learning the best for you!

WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOUR STRENGTHS ARE? There are so many things that you do well, and we want to celebrate those things! I can also help you carry those understood concepts into situations that are giving you trouble.

WHAT SITUATIONS MAKE YOU FEEL THAT YOU HAVE TROUBLE LEARNING? Does your friend in the back of the room distract you so much that you miss vital pieces of content? Are you embarrassed to ask questions? Is reading difficult and you're scared to do it out loud? Do numbers just not make sense?

WHO IS IN YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM? Who can be there to help you feel confident? Safe? Who do you go to for help?

WHERE ARE YOU STRUGGLING? What can we identify as the course work that need some attention?
