Malinda Reading And Comprehensive Tutoring
About
My service stands out because I use the best learning tools and techniques to teach my students same as Noggin or ABC Mouse. I make learning fun so that my students will better retain the information they are learning. I challenge my students to live up to their fullest potential by showing them how to set goals and reach them.
I love helping my students learn to read and write proper grammar. I love tutoring because it gives the student that one-on-one personal assistance without feeling like they are in a stuffy classroom. It allows the student to open up and get over any hangups they may have from being in a classroom with other students. For example a student may be scared to raise his or her hand in class if they need help for fear the other students will laugh at them if they don't know the correct answer. Tutoring will allow the student to ask for help or answer a question without any embarrassment from other students. I have been tutoring students with great success for two years now. One of my students started out reading on a first grade level and she was in the 3rd grade. Now she is in 5th grade reading at high school level. She continues to improve with time and practice. I believe I can make a difference in a students education with perseverance and hard work one student at a time.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I sit down with the parents to discuss the students needs. Then I assess the students needs and design a plan unique to the students needs and learning pattern.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a minor in Clinical Psychology. I have worked with children with learning disabilities within my family for several years. Those children have moved on with great success in life.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $50 per hour and sessions are an hour. I have found that most children and adults lose interest and the ability to comprehend and retain information if over an hour. So unless it's special circumstances sessions will not go over an hour. If they do, then the cost will still be $50 for every hour.
How did you get started teaching?
In 2008 my nephew and niece was having trouble keeping up in school due to reading issues. So I had my sister purchase some reading materials. I turned one of my extra bedrooms into a classroom. I set it up to look just like their classroom at school. I started tutoring them and once family and friends started seeing how well I did with my niece and nephew. They started offering to pay me to tutor their kid's.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with non-English speaking students, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade. I've worked with special needs children within my family such as ADHD and Dyslexia.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Two years ago I started tutoring my great niece with reading. She lacked self-confidence and self-esteem because she was reading on a 1st grade level and she was in the 3rd grade. I tutored her an hour every day after school. Now she is going to the 6th grade reading on almost an 8th grade level. Her math, spelling, grammar, and science improved as well. I'm so proud of her and all the hard work and determination she put in to get to where she is now. I caught her a few weeks ago teaching her little sister to read. She read to her sister with such confidence. She even had the audacity to tell her little sister to focus and pay attention to her work. She sounded like a teacher lovingly coaching her student on focusing on her work. That made my heart full with joy.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise the student to be honest with himself or herself and be honest with the teacher on your needs and goals. Always keep a clear line of communication going between teacher, student, and parents. Please be transparent with your expectations from the teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The student should think on what it is he or she want the teacher to help them improve on, and how they will go about achieving their goals.
