About
When I approach a subject, I seek to understand its core components that can be expressed in simple or relatable terms. I enjoy equating these core components to subjects that my students do understand so that it is easier to grasp. For example I had a student who was struggling with grasping the laws of Newtonian physics, but knew a great deal about cars. When I equated the term velocity with MPH and acceleration with the "zero to sixty" term, it was much easier for them to visualize the problem.
Along with my ecstatic interest in all things science and learning related, I personally believe that education helps others become more well-round individuals. I feel pride when my students grasp a new concept and can even begin to apply what they learn to other areas of life. I understand that STEM subjects appear insurmountable to some students, so I try to bring humour to my instruction and relate the subject to a real life experience, making the subject more accesible.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually request a copy of the homework or study guide that a student needs help with and ask them to complete what they can. Then I will review the homework or study guide for errors in completing problems and problems that were not completed. I use that to guide our tutoring session where I focus just on the issues that the student is having.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors in Physics with a minor in Computer Science. While I was attending college I tutored both individually and in groups for math, physics, chemistry and coding classes.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Since I do a fair bit of preparation before the tutoring session to make it as effective as possible I charge $30/hour for most intermediate level subjects such as algebra, trigonometry and introductory computer science courses.
For intermediate course tutoring such as discrete structures, calculus I, differential equations and first level physics, chemistry and computer science I will charge between $40-60/hour.
Advanced subject tutoring will be higher depending on the skill of the student and availabilty to study.
How did you get started teaching?
I tutored math through my college's tutoring program. I started tutoring algebra and then was asked by different students to tutor them privately. I have been a tutor in several different subjects.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a variety of students; those with an intellectual disability, high school students, undergraduate students and some graduate level students.
