Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I really want to get to know them before we start the tutoring process. When a child is comfortable with their environment they tend to have an easier time retaining information. I start off by telling them about myself and learning more about them. Sometimes including fun games and questionares.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
It all depends on my travel time. My minimum is $1an hour but education is especially important to me so if a family is looking for a tutor but having financial troubles I am always willing to negotiate.
How did you get started teaching?
It all started when I took a teaching professions course in high school. I have since been tutoring as a hobby and as work.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students with behavioral issues, autism, dyslexia, and once a student with downs syndrome. Most of the time it is regualr students who just want to push themselves.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Most recently I was tutoring a student with autism. He was home schooled and his parents wanted to provide him with the same quality life any other child would have. Once he came of a certain age he talked his parents into letting him go to a public school. He struggled to make friends and pass his classes. To help him I brought my own children, who were younger than him but very mature, to visit him. They all did their homework together and became close friends. His grades started improving and he even made his own little group of friends at school.
