Grammar Ease
About
I firmly believe that everyone deserves to have a voice. Finding your voice includes understanding the English language and mastering the use of it.
I am finishing my 10th year in the classroom and have also spent 3 years tutoring, the last 3 as a middle school language arts teacher. I have degrees in early childhood education and curriculum and instruction. I have certificates in language arts and special education and am pursuing a doctorate in curriculum and instruction at this time.
I published a book that deals with learning disabilities and have written a book about relationships for teens, as well as several poems that have been entered into contests.
Reading and writing are my passions and trying to help kids find their voice is exciting.
I enjoy taking a student who feels that they do not know how to write and helping them realize that they do. I also enjoy taking the student who feels like their writing is perfect and taking them beyond where they are by asking questions and making suggestions. When a student and I have gone back and forth several times with a writing and we correct grammar and sentence structure and have a piece that they are proud of, that is a good day.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing I always do is asking the student to provide a writing sample based on a prompt I give them. A writing sample allows me to see where the student is in regards to grammar rules and application as well as how they are at organizing their thoughts in a cohesive manner. The writing sample tells me where we need to start.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am completing my 10th year in the classroom. I have a bachelors and masters degrees in education as well as certificates in language arts and special education. I am an avid reader. In the past year alone, I have read over 60 books. I also write and develop new curriculum on a daily basis. I have a book that has been published and another that is almost complete that I hope to have published this year.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
There are different ways I can offer tutoring.
First, I enjoy working with students on a regular basis. To do this, a student would receive a weekly assignment through a platform such as Google Classroom. That assignment would be done by the student and submitted to me. Suggestions and corrections go back and forth between myself and the student until the piece is perfected. This service is $20/week and online.
Second, help is provided to complete a given assignment. If a student struggles with writing and organizing, I offer help, which can be done through an online format. This service is based on an hourly fee of $40.
Third, guidance can be provided with any assignment needed from middle school through undergraduate level. This service is also based on the rate of $40/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I honestly started teaching the neighborhood kids when I was about 10. We set up classrooms in the basement and I played the teacher. I went to college with the goal of teaching and it has never wavered.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with kindergarteners and preschoolers. I have taught a self-contained high school special education classroom working with all levels of special education students. Currently, I am teaching middle school language arts and reading.
