I am constantly adapting my strategies to align with new educational research; I am also diligent in assessing student progress so that changes can be made as necessary to fit the learner's goals and strengths.
As a student teacher currently working with students in a public school setting, I am constantly finding new ways to engage with students, and I am not discouraged when learning doesn't happen right away. I think developing learning strategies is just as important as learning content, and I am constantly searching for ways to facilitate both in my classroom.
I have a deep love for English language arts, and for me, sharing that with students and seeing when a concept is fully understood is remarkably rewarding. I love teaching, and I love learning. Showing students how to engage with literature and with people through language is the most fulfilling work I can imagine doing. I wouldn't trade my career or any of my students for absolutely anything.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start by trying to assess the knowledge a student already possesses, and what interests surrounding ELA the student has. All research in the area shows that when we start learning by connecting it to what students already know, they are bound to see learning as relevant and have an easier time internalizing the material. It helps to mitigate what has come to be referred to as "brain dump," where students memorize content simply to purge it after testing.
I strive to create life-long learners with my pedagogy, and I take it seriously. I am not here to waste my students time; I believe very strongly that learning should enrich our lives and be relevant to us and I try to live up to this with each student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a student teacher. In May of 2020, I will have my Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Arts and Literature as well as my 5-12 MN Teaching License.
