About

I have taught grades K-12. I began my career in East Los Angeles after graduating from the University of California. I have my teaching licensing & M.A. in Curriculum Design from Chapman University. After moving back home to Stillwater, MN and obtaining a teaching position within the Stillwater Area Schools, I received my M.S. from UW River Falls in Reading & Reading Administration. I taught math intervention for 5 years & all subject intervention at the jr. high. I am currently a math & science teacher at the 4/5 grade level.

What I like about my work is that something different occurs each day. I enjoy being with all the different personalities of my students, having fun with students by laughing and joking, getting to know students and their families, and watching students grow in their education. Teaching is a passion.

Frequently asked questions

When I first meet a student I talk with the student to find out their interest.  I also ask the student how they feel about the subject I will tutoring them in.  Is the student's issue that they think the subject is just "boring"?  Is the student lacking on just one detail in the learning process?  Does the student suffer from a poor self-esteem?  I try to build the student up so they are confident and help them see that they can be successful.

I graduated from the University of California and was not sure what I wanted to do.  I was given the opportunity to teach 6, 7, & 8th grade in a very rough neighborhood.  I lasted one year.  I decided to go back to school and get my teaching license so I could teach with a formal education in teaching. I wanted to do the best I could for my students.

I have worked with all sorts of students.  I have taught gifted & talented, average students, and taught intervention to students who struggle in various subjects.  I have taught K-12.

A recent even I am fond of is that in the school where I currently teach it is tradition for the class who is moving to the jr. high to perform a dance in the talent show.  My 5th grade students begged me to help them and dance with them.  We danced to "Footloose."  I dressed up like an old grandma with a walker and went out on the stage like I could barely move.  Once the students began dancing I eventually shed the walker and joined them in the dane.  The kindergarten students are still trying to figure out how such an old granny could dance so fast.  It was hilarious.

Having a tutor doesn't mean you are dumb.  It's a privledge. Take the opportunity and get yourself back on track.  School will be so much easier.

Am I going to give 100 percent?
