English Teacher
About
I love literature and writing, and I work to help my students love, or enjoy, both. I have worked for many years for the College Board as a reader of AP exams, so I know what the testing agencies are looking for to award high scores.
I am a third generation teacher. I started teaching/coaching when I was in ninth grade in high school. I became a teaching assistant for my college advisor when I was a sophomore in college, at Gustavus Adolphus, where I earned majors in English, History and Education, and minors in Women's Studies and coaching. I have a MA in Liberal Studies from Hamline University with an emphasis on literature and writing.
I taught English, at all levels, at Stillwater Area High School for 23 years.
I look forward to working with students to improve academic and life skills.

First, conversation, I want to get to know the student. I want to get to know the student's interests, and her or his school and education experience.
Second, I would like to see a short piece of writing, on any topic. This would give me an idea of what we would need to work on going forward.
I would also want to talk about the student's goals and intentions for our work.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I am fairly open with pricing, but I expect travel time should be factored in to the total, in some way.
How did you get started teaching?
I am a third generation teacher. My grandmother taught in a one-room school. My mother taught K-12 music. My father taught speech, debate and social studies, in my high school; I was actually his student. I entered college with an intended major of English education, and that desire never changed.

I have primarily worked with secondary students, at all levels, including AP.

As a former gymnast, long-time coach and official, I love watching the Olympics, every sport.
