Hello! My name is Jill, and I have been teaching college writing, reading, public speaking, and study skills at universities in Minneapolis. I have dedicated my teaching career to assist others in learning how to communicate better. I have a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics/Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Minnesota.
I have been tutoring as a side gig since I started helping my younger sister with her Algebra Ii/Trigonometry in high school.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first time I meet with a student, we will discuss what the student sees as his/her/their strengths in academics as well as areas that they want to work on the most.
We will then set some goals for what we hope to accomplish both short-term (in two weeks, a month, six weeks, two months, as well as long-term (in three or six months).
After conducting a needs assessment in the particular subjects that the student wants to work on, we will then establish some working rules for how we will concentrate on the major tasks the students need to accomplish in each study area.

M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language/Applied Linguistics
B.A. in Chinese Studies, Minors in Chemistry and Communications
Extensive training in Educational Technologies including Blackboard, Moodle, and Canvas Learning Management Systems. Utilize various technologies and apps including iMovie, Camtasia, VideoANT, YouTube, Audacity, VoiceThread, Kultura, and so on.
