Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to make the first interaction as stress-free as possible. My style is positive and supportive, but I also nudge and challenge my students to reach their full potential. Sometimes you can't always see the next step, and that's where a good tutor comes in. My background in coaching allows me to get to know new students quickly and easily, and we can get to work right away making things better. I want to know your goals for tutoring so that I can make the most impact and help you to get where you want to go. Each situation is different, and I believe that good communication right at the beginning sets everyone up for success.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attended the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and gained a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with two years in Undergraduate Honors classes (that means 4 semesters of Honors Calculus and 2 semesters of Honors Physics!). I tutored college students both 1 on 1 and in group settings during this time, including athletes. I also tutored middle- and high-school students in math and science during my college years.
Since then, I have worked for large, global companies in engineering and leadership roles. I have designed and led multi-day corporate training classes, and my passion for teaching has also led me to become a life coach.
In addition to my professional career, I am also a blogger and I have a strong passion for writing. I'm happy to proofread and edit any documents or essays you may want help with.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I live in Missoula, MT and provide tutoring at a local coffee shop for those that wish to travel to me, and I'm also available to meet in your home within a 5 miles radius of Missoula. I also offer virutal tutoring using Zoom.
Typical tutoring sessions last 1 hour, but we can certainly schedule more time or extend a lesson if it's helpful to the student.

How did you get started teaching?
I have had amazing mentors, coaches, and teachers in my life that have made a significant impact on who I am today and my current successes. I began tutoring in college, but quickly moved on to include teaching dance, dog training classes, corporate education, and life coaching. I love guiding rather than telling and seeing growth in my students.
What types of students have you worked with?
Middle School - math and science
High School - Algebra, PreCalc, Calculus, AP Calculus, Physics, AP Physics, Writing
College - Algebra, PreCalc, Calculus 1 and 2, Essay Proofreading and Editing, Physics 1 & 2
Adults - Business/Entrepreneurial Knowlege, Starting a Business
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Most of my students are in college needing help with Algebra. I really enjoy working with them!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask questions! Start communicating without feeling tied to someone. This is a relationship-based service as well as knowledge/expertise-based. If you don't get along with your tutor or if there are personality differences that make it difficult for you to learn, then you won't be successful. Do a session or two with someone and always feel free to work with someone else. This is your education and your path - you get to ask for what you need. All tutors want you to be successful, and the good ones know when they might not be a good fit for you. Be Brave and reach out! Tutoring can make a HUGE difference in your success - especially the speed of understanding.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How do you learn best?
Do you need a quiet room and a private tutor or do you thrive best when in a group? Will you be more comfortable away from home in a space dedicated to learning (a school or library for example) or will you be more comfortable in your own home?
