Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically the first couple of sessions are designed in a way that enables me to figure out what the student is struggling with and/or what their strengths and weaknesses are. After we identify some weaknesses/struggles, I figure out what methods work best for them as sometimes, the more commonly-used methods for solving problems do not work for everyone. We will then work out the material together where I will be a guide for the student and not simply provide the answer to everything so that they can continuously solve problems on their own once we are done.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I originally majored in Mathematics at the University of St. Thomas before switching to Business Economics. I have taken all levels of math up to Multivariable Calculus with experience tutoring every subject below Multivariable including ACT Math. I have worked as a Teacher Assistant, a tutor at various tutoring centers, and an online tutor.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching and coaching because I find it incredibly fulfilling to teach someone something that I understand quite well that they might be struggling with. Whether that be life lessons, a sport, or Mathematics.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students. I have worked with those that are really struggling with Mathematics, do not enjoy it, and simply do not understand it, as well as those who are quite good at Mathematics, that might be struggling with a certain topic.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone that does things differently. Tutors often times use the same methods taught in a classroom, which obviously do not work for everyone. My style of tutoring is quite different in that I aim to figure out what works for the specific student and using that to help them.
