About
I homeschooled all six of my own children, kindergarten through high school. I even had several other families sending their children to my home, so it was like a K-12 one-room school. One of our daughters is on the spectrum, and as a tutor I have worked with several others like her. I also have worked successfully with students who have Tourette's, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Dyscalculia, and Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum. I'm open to other issues as well. I've been tutoring online and in person for about 12 years. I first spent a full quarter century with mostly my own, and then I taught fitness for about a decade before health issues put the kabosh on that.
We're a math and science nerd family, with family group chats covering subjects such as relativity and what's inaccurate in Project Hail Mary. Numbers are FUN, and I love helping students see patterns and connections in math rather than just memorizing isolated facts or studying to pass a test rather than simply learning for the joy of knowledge.
I consider it my job description to keep trying one more way to explain things until your child or teen "gets it". If what they were reading on their tablet or hearing in class were enough, they wouldn't need me. They need a new approach or better practice or going back to pick up a skill that got lost.
I know family and work life can get crazy, so I'm usually fine with adjustments to the schedule or the location, even at the last minute. I'll come to you, so you don't have to find a sitter for the littles or waste an hour plus travel time at my home that you really needed elsewhere. I've even added on "shuttle service" for a couple of clients: picking up the kiddo at school, bringing him home, and tutoring there. I'm happy to meet at a Starbuck's or library or anywhere that works for you if home isn't the best option.
Let me help! Looking forward to meeting your family!
