Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will first get to know the student and his/her needs by doing reading assessments. I will also interview the student about their reading preferences and habits to get to know them more.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have bachelor and master degrees in education and have done many additional reading trainings, including at the University of Minnesota.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $20 for a half hour session
How did you get started teaching?
I studied school in university and have been teaching for the last 15 years in public, private, and charter schools.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with elementary age students from Kindergarten to 5th grade.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise a parent looking to get reading assistance from a tutor to make sure that the tutor is knowledgeable about the Science of Reading and is using research based interventions with fidelity. I would also make sure that the tutor has a screening process and progress monitors their students' growth. If growth isn't occurring, I would encourage parents to have a conversation with their tutor to discuss possible adjustments or changes to the intervention.
