About

I am a 7th grade ELA teacher in St. Clair Shores, MI. All throughout my life I have been dedicated and have had a strong love for learning. In middle/high school I spent my time in advanced placement ELA classes, and in college I exceeded in my writing and reading classes. I currently have my Bachelor's in Elementary Education/English Language Arts from Central Michigan University, however, I am not limited to just elementary and middle school grades. I have strong knowledge of high school writing, expectations, literature, and standards. In the next few years, I will be receiving my Master's. Ideally, it will be in a young adult and children's literature program.

I have tutored students since I was in college. I spent time tutoring at multiple elementary schools in the area as well as at their middle school after school. When I tutor your child, you should expect to see an engaging hands on approach. I run my classroom with minimal lectures and a majority project based learning and engaging hands on activities. By doing this, the students learn to become accountable for their own work, and explore at their own time. You can expect to see this same style in the tutoring, just in a more direct one-on-one session. I will be more hands on in our learning. Because of this style, I am proud to say that my students have aquired very strong ELA skills by the end of the school year.

My goals for tutoring your child are to help build their skills, and to help them feel more confident in their class. Whether we are editing their essays for college or high school, relearning possessive nouns, or just as simple as finishing a project, you can expect that your child will receive hands on help and guidance.

    Frequently asked questions

The first step is to gather what they know. I start by asking them what they like about ELA, what they find the hardest, and how they are doing. I like to have their teacher's contact information so I can reach out and get some grades and progress in class. I like to know what we will be working on, and I will start by essentially having the student teach me so I can see what they know, and what they struggle with. By having them teach me, I can also see where they are struggling or messing up and I have a starting point for the remainder of the session and sessions to follow.

I received by Bachelor of Education, Elementary Education/English Language Arts from Central Michigan University. During my time in college I tutored at various elementary schools and middle schools. I also peer edited many papers for other students in my classes in college. In my professional work, I am a 7th grade ELA teacher where I teach both regular ELA classes and support ELA.

$50 for half an hour, $75 for full hour. For younger students (elementary-middle), I would strictly suggest the half an hour session, because you only have their attention span for so long.
