Teaching people how science and math can bring depth to their understanding of the world, and how literature and language enrich their lives and the lives of those around them is an experience and privilege I cherish.
I am a 2019 graduate of Oakland University with a B.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences. I worked at Huntington Learning Center for ~1 year tutoring students in mathematics up to pre-calculus, english literature and grammar for ACT and SAT prep, biology, chemistry, algebra-based physics, and more. After Huntington Learning Center, I currently work at Absolute Laboratories performing building inspections, analytical chemistry, microbiology, and microscopy for the analysis of drinking water, lake and pond water, and building materials. I believe my passion for education, teaching experience, and applied science experience can help you reach your academic goals.

Great personality that works very well with my child, and presents mathematical thinking in a practical, relatable way.
Jacob is an awesome tutor. He’s very easy to talk to and never makes you feel dumb if you’re not understanding something. He always makes sure that you’re enjoying and satisfied with the sessions. He’s also very flexible with scheduling. I’ll continue to use him for other classes and recommend him to others!
Jake does a phenomenal job breaking down the material into simple segments that are easy to understand and review, I’ve sought out his help both for music as well as mathematics and absolutely will do so again in the future. Not many tutors take the time to prepare like Jake does for our sessions, he easily puts more time in to making sure he has a clear plan for our sessions than the actual session takes, and his attention to the material has always been top notch.
Good teacher he doesn’t give you answers makes you work it out.
I find that getting to know what a student is passionate about is an important first step. Knowing what future application(s) the information being presented might be used for is helpful in creating relevant lesson plans and practice problem sets.
Secondly, I like to assess prior knowledge by working through sample problems in a step by step fashion, ensuring the student understands that mistakes are necessary for improvement.
Once a student's knowledge base is established, I like to work on any remediation of skills that is necessary for progress. A strong foundation is the key to success.
After these three objectives are met, we approach new subjects in an appropriately paced, deliberate, and stepwise manner. Through frequent auditing of shown work problem solving skills are made habitual, and a deep understanding of the material forms.

I started teaching in my sophomore year of college to earn extra money and found that I really enjoyed helping people understand complex topics in math, science, literature, and language. I was working overnight shifts at a community non-profit hospital, but this schedule became unsustainable when coupled with the demands of the biomedical science coursework. I found a listing for a part time job at Huntington Learning Center near my apartment and began teaching there in my early senior year at Oakland University. I worked there until finding a listing for my current full time job at Absolute Laboratories.
Due to respect for the privacy of my past students I am not at liberty to discuss this at length, but I have worked with a diverse array of students in terms of age, socioeconomic status, and culture. I have a moderate level of experience with students who are learning disabled.
I recently built my first PC! I am a musician, and the PC is geared towards audio production. This was something I had wanted to do for a long time and the feeling of satisfaction from having researched each part and having put it together myself was truly fantastic.
While it is important that your tutor is skilled in the subject matter you're hoping to master together, ensure they are also encouraging and kind. It is so much harder to learn when you feel that someone who is supposed to be teaching you makes you feel bad while you're trying your best.
I personally have an open door policy regarding student questions. If you're asking questions, you're on the right track!
