Jennifer's Tutoring

Hi,

I am Jennifer. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in K-8 education with specialization in math and science. I also have a Masters degree in science education. I have a passion to teach and help students. I have been an elementary /middle school teacher for ten years. I have experience with after school tutoring and teaching math intervention classes to students who need extra support as well as enrichment classes and programs to children who want to push ahead of their peers.

I like to start off by finding out the goals for the student. Are there specific skills or topics that you would like me to focus on? Do I need to identify areas of concern, and start with those? Does your child struggle in class and need additional support? Or does your child need to build their skills in order to gain confidence

Once we determine goals, I like to assess where the student is at and work from there. Depending on the subject, I find it generally most beneficial to model the skill for the student, then guide them through the process step by step, and finish by having the student practice until they can accomplish it on their own. With multiple sessions, I like to revisit previous material we worked on to ensure retention of the information.

I enjoy when students have that "aha moment." Watching a child's face light up when they get it is why I went into teaching.
