Parker Schimler
About
I like to take a more holistic approach to tutoring. With a rapport between a learner and educator I believe that a more condusive learning environment can be established. This also allows me as an educator to inject a learner's interests into lessons.
During the last couple of years I have realized that I have had some opportunities to gain certain knowledge that not everybody has. Because of this I have decided to dedicate my life to serving others through education. I truly just want to share the knowledge that I have gained with others so that they can continue on to accomplish whatever it may be that they are passionate about.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to first take time to get to know a learner, both as a person and how the think and learn best.

In college I studied physics and focused on secondary education. After college I joined City Year where I spent a school year in a 7th and 8th grade math class partnered with a teacher in Detroit Public Schools Community District. During this program we recieved regular training and coaching on how to best serve our students.

Typically around $20 an hour but I am flexible with this number.
How did you get started teaching?
I decided to get into education while I was working at summer camp with youth aged from 5th grade to 12th grade. It was here that I realized that I have gained knowledge that not everybody has had the opportunity to and I want to do my best to further spread this knowledge

During my time with City Year I worked primarily with 7th and 8th grade students.
