Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process with new students is doing pretest drills to discover their strengths and things they need to improve on. Next, I discuss goals with the student and focus on those areas.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an Bachelors in Science from Central a Michigan University. I worked with a school as a reading specialist and gain some new skills in Orton Gillingham training. Orton Gillingham is a program method that help students improve their reading abilities with multi sensory activities. I have also worked in a research laboratory which I help students develop their research and careers as future scientist. I am skilled in all areas of science and math.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard price is $55, due to my expertise in the subject areas.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching growing up in a research lab. I saw my teacher multi-task laboratory foundation, creating research posters, and planning expeditions that match with students interest. This experience inspired to go into teaching and give back to my community.
What types of students have you worked with?
I travel a lot so, I worked with suburban and inner city students from places such as Florida, Baltimore, Delaware, Iowa Detroit, Farmington Hills, and Birmingham, MI. Traveling allows me to learn students variety styles of learning and implementing the styles to improve my instructional presentation during workshops.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event I am fond by was increasing a students reading ability and confidence. The student was behind a grade level in reading and was stressing of being held back. We work together for three months and when she took the test in January, she got to grade level. She is now reading aloud at home, in school and always reading on her free time. She found reading exciting once she gain reading foundation skills and confidence.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The advice I would give the student is to ensure the tutor is the best fit by reading the profile, contact the tutor over the phone and discuss your goals, meet the tutor in person too see if they are passionate about the work and can see yourself meeting your goals with that tutor.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Some questions students should think through before asking for teachers guidance include:
1. What are my challenges
2. What goals do I want to meet in this subject?
3. How would I like to accomplish these goals?
4. What role would I want my teacher to play while helping me reach the goals?
