Frequently asked questions

I like to start with asking the student to explain where they are stuck. After that, we gather materials and start with what we DO know. Throughout the process, I like to create opportunities for the student to expand their own knowledge through deductive reasoning, inferences, and problem solving skills.

I have a degree from Winona State University in Communication Studies, Leadership and Advocacy. I also taught preschool as well as having worked one on one with children with Autism. I also have worked the last three years exclusively as a tutor, for all ages and levels.

I don't believe that learning and understanding should have a time limit, so I like to quote a flat price for the entire lesson based on how much time I think it will take, without any penalties if it should take longer, except for in extraordinary cases.

My first job was as a preschool assistant teacher, and from then on I've had a desire to help students reach their full potential, for the purposes of curiousity, and enjoyment, rather than "teaching to test".

I have worked with all ages, grades, and unique needs.

Recently, I was able to assist two siblings struggling with virtual learning to better understand their virtual classroom set up, and to then catch up on their missing assignments. Grades 3rd and 6th, accross multiple subjects.

Find someone who makes you comfortable and who you think you'll be able to connect with.

Think about the parts you don't understand, and be sure to include any previous lessons that didn't make sense, either. It is more beneficial to start where the gap in knowledge starts versus starting in the middle and then needing to backtrack.
