Our Tutors: All of our tutors are experienced, certified instructors in their field of expertise. Many of our instructors have years of classroom and online teaching experience. Additionally, our tutors are vetted to ensure that their educational philosophy is aligned to The Learning Lab expectations. Finally, our instructors have a love of teaching.
How We Teach: Our individual tutoring classes encourage a love of learning.
We build relationships with our students and provide individualized, engaging and effective instruction.
Our classes are tailored to meet individual student needs. We meet our students where they are and move them forward using the best practices of education.
As part of our instruction, we often use the socratic method of education which results in higher-level thinking skills, active student participation and thoughtfulness.
What We Teach: We focus on academic subjects - English Language Arts [ELA], the sciences and mathematics for students in grades K-8.
The skills taught align with the State Common Core Standards and the Framework for K–12 Science Education. However, if provided, we can tailor the instruction to meet the student's specific school/district/state standards.
Our tutors love working with children and have a passion for teaching. We get so excited when our students achieve!

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I enjoyed watching the half-pipe skiing olympic event. It was amazing to see such talented athletes.
I also recently attended [online] a 5 day coding challenge. It was an excellent learning experience.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise a student to find someone with demonstrated expertise in the subject area. Also, it is important that the student feels encouraged by the tutor to excel and achieve. If something doesn't click, or you are not happy with the services, find another tutor.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should know their goals. It is also helpful to be honest with the prospective tutor about challenges and difficulties.
