About
I am highly qualified. I earned my bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Michigan with honors. I earned my master's degree in mathematics from Eastern Michigan University with a 4.0 GPA. I earned my Ph.D. in mathematics with a focus on teaching college mathematics from Central Michigan University. I taught various math classes as a graduate student at CMU from 2003 to 2010, and I have been teaching math full-time at Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College since 2011. I have tutored math students at EMU, CMU, SCTC, and independently. At EMU I received an award for outstanding service as a mathematics tutor. When my friends and relatives have a question about math, they know to come to me.
I love helping people understand how math works and why it works. Math is not just a bunch of random rules, but rather it is a powerful way to describe reality, and knowing WHY it works helps you remember HOW it works. My passion in life is teaching people to think logically and critically for themselves so they can make informed decisions to improve their lives. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
At the first meeting, the student and I discuss what they hope to get out of our sessions. We do an initial tutoring session of up to two hours so the student can see if they think we will be a good fit. There is no charge for the first session.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
After the initial session, which is free, I charge $12 per hour. Sessions are typically 1 hour ($12), 1.5 hours ($18), or 2 hours ($24), depending on the student's needs and wishes.
