About

CK Tutoring was founded in April of 2020 when many families were facing the struggle of schools being shut down and students falling behind in their classes and overall progress. CK Tutoring's focus is on instilling study and organizational habits that will set students up to excel in their educational careers rather than fall behind due to distance learning. Rather than teaching students the material, tutors here strive to motivate the student, promote the teacher's lessons, and help students when they are stuck. CK Tutoring has two specialized tutors both Undergraduate students at WMU in their third year. Lead Tutor, Cassie, is a certified tutor with 2 years experience tutoring K-12 and 1 year experience tutoring college level classes. She is going for her Bachelors in Communications. Music Tutor, Laura, is going for her Bachelors in Orchestra Music, with a major in cello and minor in piano. Her goal is to ultimately become a music teacher.

Lead Tutor, Cassie, most enjoys the gratification in seeing her students succeed in their personal goals and grow as learners and passionate people.

    Frequently asked questions

All new students must schedule first appointment 1 week in advance and fill out a Consent Form upon arrival. This Consent Form is more like a non binding contract for the student to know what they can expect of their tutor and what the tutor will expect from them. After this, tutors will try to spend the first twenty minutes or so getting to know the student, connecting with them, and trying to understand their troubles or where they are struggling. We at CK Tutoring succeed only through the mutual trust and respect we have with our students, so tutors try their very best to begin to establish this before outlining the goals for the session and the future, then getting to work on school work.

Lead Tutor, Cassie, became a certified tutor through Muskegon Community College in 2019. In her junior year of high school she was the Assistant Student Teacher for a fifth grade classroom through a program called HOST. Continuing this, she again was an Assistant Student Teacher her senior year for a second grade classroom. She also has 6 years childcare experience with children aged 1-13 years old. She was a tutor for one year during her high school career and then at MCC for one year, before transferring to WMU and continuing her passion of educating and helping those who are struggling. Laura, the Music Tutor, has been playing cello and piano for 6+ years and is currently in school to become a music teacher.

Lead Tutor charges base of $20 an hour for K-12 students. SAT Prep and College tutoring sessions is an added $5 per hour. Discount available for WMU Students. Music Tutor charges base of $22 an hour for cello or piano beginners lessons. Intermediate level cello lessons is an added $5 per hour.

Throughout high school and her freshman year of college, it was a regular occurence for Cassie to be working on class work or studying with a group of peers and tutoring many of them for free. During this time, it was never even considered that she could make a living out of this or expand to make a larger positive impact on students in her area. It wasn't until the very beginning of her second year at MCC that her economics professor recommended her to the tutoring department and she learned what being a Tutor really meant and how she could truly help her peers.

Lead Tutor has experience and comfortability working with K-12 as well as peer college students. Music Tutor has experience working with peer college students, but can work with K-12 as well.
