About
Hello! My name is Miss Stuart, and I am a recent graduate of a B.S. mathematics education program in Michigan. I also minored in English and intend to become a high school teacher when the opportunity arises. Throughout my undergraduate program, I immersed myself in many tutoring and teaching situations. I have been offering private tutoring services for 3 years now, but my experiences in educational settings extend beyond self-employment. They include a semester of student teaching, math center drop-in tutoring and individual tutoring for college students, summer camp counseling, seminar presentations at my university, and whatever other opportunities I could get my hands on!
As I'm sure you can conclude from my extensive involvement in education, I absolutely love getting to know students and helping them master their material. It is my personal belief that a person can do anything that they put their mind to, and that is the foundation of every lesson I have taught and session I have tutored. My accomplishments as an undergraduate student reflect an application of this belief to my own life; math was not necessarily my area of expertise going into college, yet I scored the highest possible score on the mathematics secondary education MTTC during my final semester. Through hard work and a positive attitude, every individual has the potential to meet their goals, and this is a truth that I am intentional about instilling in each one of my students.
My greatest joy when it comes to tutoring is seeing a student accomplish their goals and celebrate victories, no matter how small they are. I work privately with a special education student who is high school age but has a learning disability and was placed at about a fourth grade level in math when I began tutoring her. During our weekly sessions, we focused on learning the ins and outs of multiplication. Not only has this student mastered applications of multiplication, memorized multiplication facts, learned how to apply the commutitive and distributive properites, and can demonstrate how to multiply longhand, but she is also more confident than ever before about her ability to do math. By acknowledging her progress every step of the way, she has been empowered to keep moving forward in her understanding of the subject.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Step one to getting any job know is understanding the end goal. I will want to know what you would like to see happen as a result of tutoring, whether it be increasing or maintaining your grade, to be able to pass a test, or just a better understanding of a subject. Of course, in order to accomplish these goals, I will need to be somewhat aware of your background in the subject being studied. Discussing your goals and background shouldn't necessarily take a lot of time, but it will allow for a smoother transition into interacting directly with the material.
