I have a math/science major and currectly teach at East Grand Rapids Middle School 6th and 7th grade math. I tutor in the summer to several 6th and 7th grade students in the area of math and Pre-Algebra. I love working wth students and especially one on one where I can build a relationship. I make learning fun and do both paper pencil work and computer.

How did you get started teaching?
I love working with children and helping them love and understand math. I make learning fun and best of all, students get more confidence in math and therefore become a stronger student.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Games and activities that help students underatand and yet have fun learning in the process. An activity I used with my students was one regarding Decimals, adding and subtracting. I had students go shopping, students created a budget and then purchased items and afterwards had to do the math to stay within budget.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
I believe ALL students can do math and actually enjoy it!! Students need to have the concepts clearly explained and then be provided practice and real workd appication to make it make sense. Students then gain confidence and therefore become better at math.
