Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always spend the first session getting to know the person and where exactly it is that they struggle. I can then take these notes home and formulate a specific lesson plan based on that individuals learning needs. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses and it's my mission to help each client learn at their own pace in a way that makes sense to them and focuses on what they personally need to improve.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I went to college for six years; I spent four of them studying psychology and another two studying creative writing for entertainment. I have achieved a degree in writing and have been published in literary magazines. I have also self-published my own fictional novel series.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate is $25 an hour, with a 2 hour minimum for our first session. This ensures I have the time I need to collect all the necessary information to formulate an individualized lesson plan.
How did you get started teaching?
I am a lifelong learner. I have always loved to share the knowledge I have acquired, and I find that teaching helps me learn more as well.
What types of students have you worked with?
So far, most of my work has been with college students with various writing majors. I have helped with creative writing assignments, essays, poetry, publishing, and more.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would insist they find someone they have a connection with. If you're going to be spending a lot of time with a person, learning from them, you want it to be someone you are comfortable with.
