Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
You are hiring me to help you, so the first thing do is ask you what you want to work on. There are a lot of different skills that go along with ELA. Some students need help with writing, and some students need help with reading. You tell me what skills you want to improve on, and then I can create a plan to help you meet your goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a middle school ELA teacher.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is negotiable depending on the student and the amount of time and help they need.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching in a middle school setting for the past 3 years. I became a teacher because I was not a good student. I had teachers to had my back and helped me through everything. I wanted to become a teacher so I could provide that same level of support to my own students. School is hard enough, and this past year has made it even harder. My goal is to provide a safe learning environment to all of my students.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a lot of very different types of students. I work with general education and special education students. I help students who struggle with ELA. I also work with students who thrive in ELA and want to continue to push themselves to get better. I work with a lot of ELL students where English is not their first language. My specialty is working with students with trauma. This can mean many different things, but I try to help all of their students with their mental health, coping mechanisms, and how to move forward from their trauma.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would recommend that students work with a teacher that is educated in that field and who they get along with. I can teach anyone, but students learn the best from people they enjoy being with.
That's why it's so important for me to make connections with my students.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I would suggest asking teachers how they plan on helping you reach your goals and what they think you would need help with.
