Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The initial meeting will be to get to know one another and make sure we are a match and have the same goals. If it is a good fit we will set up a schedule and basic protocol that we can agree to. Also, if time permits we will set up the the first assignments for the students to work on in preperation for our second meeting.
2nd meeting as well as further meetings we will review the assignment they were to complete and review and questions and explainations they need to master the content.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a High School English and Pulic Speaking teacher for 21 years. Over the past 12 years I have also had the opportunity to focus on Test Prep in both ACT and SAT formats.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Each tutor session is $25
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching becasue of my love to help others learn. I love to read and write, so it is safe to say English was my favorite subject. Speaking in public did not come quite so easy, but once I figured out the keys to success I wanted to share them with everyone! I want to make it easily approachable so people can learn and not struggle.
What types of students have you worked with?
All of my years of teaching have been in an Urban Public highschool.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My most favorite memory from this past year teaching was during one of the last practice tests my students took. After each section the kids would get their score on that section. We had been working on English Grammar for some weeks and I was really pushing the kids to get better and learn proper grammar. At the end of the section of English Grammar testing one of my students raised her had so I went to her, she had tears in her eyes. I asked what was wrong. She said, "Ms. M, I trippled my score! You really do teach us how to do it!" I responded, "It was all you, I was just there to give you guidence."
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who you are comfortable with, fits your learning style and can explain things the way YOU understand!
