About this tutor

I am currently getting a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Michigan, as well as have a Bacherlor of Arts in Psychology and Education. I have been spending the last five years learning various teaching philosophies and ensuring that I have the ability to make each child feel academically successful, as well as perform academically in a successful manner. 

I greatly enjoy working with K-8 students on subjects like elementary school math, language arts, science, and social studies, as well as middle school language arts. In June, I will be receiving my Masters in Elementary Education and Teaching Certification from the University of Michigan. I will be licensed to teach kindergarten through eighth grade. 

I look forward to taking this time to help your child learn content, master material, raise test scores, and develop overall confidence with classroom material!

One thing that I really enjoy about teaching is forming relationships with my students, as well as seeing them learn new material. There is nothing more exciting than working closely with a student on a specific topic and seeing them finally understand it!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

First, I like to really get a feel for the material that students have mastered, as well as material that students could use more work on. In order to do this, I like to give students problems to complete or passages to read, that will help me better understand their level of mastery of certain material. In addition, I like to understand what type of learner this new student is, as I believe that plays a large role in how I get through to students. Are they a visual learner, auditory, etc?

After I gather a better understanding of these things, I take it upon myself to find or develop activities, work pages, reading passages, etc. that would best suit them, as well as think about the best way for me to convey the information to this particular student.

Since we would have to meet over the computer at this time, I would send these pages to a parent/guardian before we meet over the computer so the pages can be printed, or so students have the ability to see them on their computer. 

When it comes time to have a meeting over the computer, you can be sure that time will be used productively and students will have fun learning new material, or reviewing old material!
