About
I am a National Tutor Associate (NTA) Intermediate Level Certified Tutor specializing in reading, writing, and study skills development. I work primarily online but am open to local in-person tutoring.
The personalized plan for your student will be created after I've had the opportunity to speak with you and meet with your child during our first session. Our first session is free. The goal of the session will be for us to get acquainted, to discuss a possible tutoring strategy, and to allow your child an opportunity to meet and become comfortable with me.
My background includes a BS in Biology. Additionally, I am currently pursuing a master's degree in Religious Studies and am actively working on my Michigan Teacher's Certification. I am a published writer and blogger by trade and am also a freelance social media content creator and publisher.
I charge $30 per session and do offer package rates as well.
I come from a multi-generational teaching family, so I guess you can say teaching is in my blood.
I love tutoring and helping others. I am a life-long learner and believe we can all learn something new every day.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, during the first session I prefer taking time to get to know the student ---- likes, dislikes, and review their current situation and study habits. From there I will put together a program that we will work through together as we work towards their goals.
I am very collaborative and incorporate feedback and special requests where I can for any tutoring program. I believe that each tutoring experience is unique, so I don't follow a cookie-cutter program.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Throughout my professional career, I have been a trainer. I created the curriculum and implemented the training. I have also taken a handful of courses in training.
In school (secondary and college-level) I have always been an honors student and maintained successful study habits. In my youth, I was diagnosed with dyslexia, so I understand what it feels like for kids and also know what it takes to overcome and achieve in spite of the diagnosis.
In addition to training courses, I avidly read education and training books and consult with two accredited teachers on a weekly basis (reviewing what I've learned, where the kids I am working with are, and what tips and techniques would be most effective).
The tutoring and study techniques I use/teach all come from my personal and professional experience. Additionally, I am a certified NTA tutor.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Depending on the subject and frequency of sessions, my prices range from $20-$35 per session.
I will work with parents to establish a frequency and pricing structure that will work for them and one that allows me the best options for helping their students.
How did you get started teaching?
I come from a family that is very teacher-heavy (five generations of my family are teachers, professors, or principals). So, it's only natural that teaching, tutoring, and helping others is in my blood.
I began tutoring in high school and college and returned to it about five years ago when I began homeschooling my own children.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with a wide range of students from K-12. Typically, the students I work with are:
+ struggling with concepts / understanding the material
+ needing to learn successful study and test-taking techniques
+ dyslexic and are having trouble keeping up with their classes and/or understanding the material

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When it comes to hiring a tutor, aside from experience and knowledge, the number one thing I recommend you consider is personality. How well you get along with or connect with your tutor is hugely important.
If you don't connect well with your tutor, then you will not trust them, and odds are, won't follow the guidance they are providing.
