Math & English Tutoring
About
I have had a love of learning for as long as I can remember, and have developed an even greater love of sharing my knowledge with others over the past three years I've been in business. While I majored in music in college, I have a strong academic background in math, English, reading, writing, psychology, and more. My love of multiple disciplines gives me different perspectives and ways of relating information that you won't find with every tutor.
I think what I enjoy most about what I do is that I get to guide students to understandings that they did not have prior to working with them. Everyone has a unique way of taking in and retaining information, and when I crack the code for a particular student, I get to witness the "ohhhh!" as they finally understand something they had not previously grasped. I myself perceive and learn things differently, and it means a lot to me to be for others the kind of instructor I needed growing up.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Generally, I take the first session with a new student to get a sense of where they're at, both with the material of the class itself and their study habits and learning styles. I like to share my background as a tutor, and get a good sense of my student's background, especially related to any quantitative goals the student has related to the subject/class. From there, we can either jump right in to current relevant assignments, or drill some relevant concepts needed to be successful. I always give the student the agency to choose what we work on in any session.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I recently completed my Bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies as a vocalist, with a minor in Psychology. For my entire life, however, I have been very enthusiastic with and well-versed in the English language and everything to do with it, from reading and analyzing classic literature to writing essays, and even writing poetry. I have taken several honors/AP English courses prior to my college education as well and earned good grades across the board. While I have worked with my peers to finetune their essays ever since I learned to write, I have formally worked with English students since June 2020. Additionally, I have a pretty strong background in mathematics, having taken honors/AP classes throughout my education and taking on clients as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rates are $25 for a 30 minute session, and $45 for an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
When the pandemic hit, I knew it wouldn't be safe to go back to my barista job, and risk endangering the individuals particularly prone to the virus that I live with. I had to find something else to do that I could do from home, and I came up with the idea of making a business out of tutoring in the subjects I have been passionate about since I started going to school. So, I asked around, got my first client, and it all took off from there. I have now worked with several clients, and hope to work with many more!
What types of students have you worked with?
If you can believe it, I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, from elementary school, to grad students, to adults returning to school after many years. Needless to say, I have gotten something valuable from working with every single student I have ever had the pleasure of tutoring.
