About

I believe that students should enjoy learning. If they enjoy it, they will want to do more. I have been certified and taught from from Pre-K through college level ESL students and have made a difference in many lives. I have taught students 3-4 years below grade level. I have taught international college students who were provisionally accepted pending English proficiency. All were brought to proficiency level. Reading and writing open doors to the future for all ages. There is no limit to individual improvement and enthusiasm. LET ME HELP YOU!

I enjoy teaching, and therefore my students enjoy learning. Tutoring on a one-to-one basis allows the student to progress at their own speed, and encourages them to excel beyond their (or parents') expectations. I look forward to "seeing the lightbulb" as the student achieves their goal for the first time, and watching that lightbulb brighten as they progress. Teaching and learning are mutually rewarding to my and my students.

Frequently asked questions

Talking with them to make them comfortable. Asking about their interests and sharing our mutual interests. Bringing some of my favorite books for them to read to assess their needs. If they are comfortable doing so, asking them to write about something that interests them.

I have been teaching for many years, as a per-diem substitute teacher, long term substitute teacher and as a full time teacher. In these capacities I have taught Pre-K through elementary, as well as ESL for college students. I have served on the Scholastic Books Teacher Advisory Board. I have served as a member of my local School Board of Education for 17 years, as well as on the Executive Committee for Bergen County School Boards for 10 years. I am dedicated to education.

I believe I was destined to teach, and thoroughly enjoy watching students increase their enthusiasm as they improve and progress. I started teaching while in high school, working as a volunteer in local elementary schools. I taught my own children to read before they started school. I am committed to education.

I have worked with students as young as 3, college students in their 30's, and ages in between. I have worked with students with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and behavioral disabilities.

A fourth grade student came to me in September who knew his alphabet but was unable to put any letters together to form words (pre-school level). He hated school, and fought frequently. I worked closely with him while teaching the rest of the class (he was pulled out for one hour per week). By the end of that school year he was reading on high grade 2 level. He enjoyed school and was happy to read, even though others were ahead of him.

I ask them to understand that I love books and reading. Reading skills improve writing skills. Anything that a person wants to do requires reading: driving, math, computers, cooking, and other interests. I hope to instill a love of learning in my students.
