About
Hello. My name is Serena. I hold a Bachelors degree in Applied Mathematics & Statistics and Neuroscience from Johns Hopkins University (one of the top 10 colleges). I have been tutoring one- on- one for 8 years now, with Khan’s Tutorial, TutorChase, as well as with Chegg. I am a standardized exam tutor, helping to prep students for their SATs, ACTs, MCATs, and SHSATs. I also tutor students in a plethora of mathematic subjects, such as but not limited to algebra, trigonometry, and calculus.
I first stumbled upon tutoring in high school, and realized how incredibly rewarding it is. Not only do I value the feeling of sharing my knowledge to help another student, but also, I value the connections I make with my students. I work with both my student and his/her family to understand how to best help tutor the student, and how I can also be a mentor. In many situations, the "one size fits all" approach is effective, however, in teaching, I find it detrimental. I enjoy the art of tutoring as a creative process that is geared towards each individual student’s needs. It allows me to be innovative as I create specific lesson plans and questions tailored to my student’s style of learning. Additionally, I implement the Socratic process, which involves the students in their tutoring sessions, encouraging them to ask questions to help build a greater understanding of the materials and helping them retain the materials for longer durations.
I would love to work with you and talk more on how I can help you. I do online tutoring and I am very flexible with session times. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or (347)513-5980 to chat more! Additionally, if you would like to talk to some of my prior students, I can share their contact information!
